“What number am I”
I get asked this all the time so here is my explanation of how I hold deposits and when you will get your puppy:
I hold all my deposits in order of the date received.
This means the date your paperwork is complete and I have received the $300 deposit.
I am no longer holding spots while mailing. I have so many who say they will mail paperwork and deposit then don’t mail it for weeks and still want their original spot on my list. Due to this I will no longer hold a spot while you mail out paperwork.
I average anywhere from 1-10 deposits each week and my policy states I must have a Puppy application, Sales contract, Health guarantee, copy of driver’s license and $300 deposit. Until I have all of this your spot on the list is not confirmed. If others get theirs in before you I will rank them above you.
I must have completed paperwork and deposit to lock your spot on my list.
Picking order is also the same, 1st deposit gets 1st pick of puppies.
When puppies are born and I know exactly how many I have and what the sexes are I start offering the puppies to the people on my list in order of deposit.
Once I get to your name on the list I will offer whatever puppy/puppies I have, be it male or female or both. You will choose sex at this point. I do not hold spots by sex or by litter.
Due to so many issues in the past with people not replying to my emails I now have a 48 hour time-frame in which you will need to reply and let me know if you want to accept or pass on the puppy.
If you do not reply within 48 hours of the timestamp on my email I will simply pass you and offer the puppy to the next person in line. You will NOT lose your spot on the deposit list but you will have to wait until I have another puppy to offer you.
Many people change their mind about sex choice and many don’t care so I never know how many people are waiting for a specific sex.
If you ask me how many above me want females my answer will be “I don’t know”. I really just do not know.
For example: if you are 1st deposit and I have a litter with 4 boys and 4 girls you will have your choice of either a boy or a girl and you would also get 1st pick. If I get to the 5th person on my list and the 4 above you all pick girls you will be offered 1st pick of the 4 boys.
I continue to offer remaining puppies until each puppy has a new owner. If I get to your name and I only have males left and you want a female you will have the option to pass and wait for the next litter. Your deposit will apply to any future puppy, you can pass as long as you like until the timing is right for you.
As people above you get their puppies you will move up in rank.
Due to not knowing exactly how many puppies are in a litter and also not being able to know what the sexes are makes it IMPOSSIBLE for me to know what litter I will be offering you a puppy in.
***I want to add this here since this has come up several times. Once you give me confirmation that you want a puppy from a current litter, if you decide to change your mind later and you want to pass on this puppy you will not lose your deposit but you will go to the end of the deposit list. You will not go back to the top of the list where you were. You will go back on the list by the date you declined your puppy not your original deposit list.
I also always have people who have deposited months to years in advance, for those people waiting I consider them “dormant” but they can at any time decide they are ready. So if this happens it will change your number on the list as I will put them back on the list in order of their deposit date. Being they have been waiting they will go to the top of the list in most cases due to them depositing long before most of the current list. For this reason alone I do not like to tell people what number they are because I do not count people who I know are waiting for a future puppy. I normally have at least 10+ people waiting for a future time so if they all decide at once they are ready that could change your spot for #10 to #20. That is a big difference and why I give estimates in time frames vs telling what number you are.
With all litters I plan for 10 deposits per litter as I know a few will decide to wait for a particular sex and for a few, the timing may not be right. My average litter size is 7-8 so I do accept a few extra deposits since I know some will pass due to sex or timing. This is how I estimate when I will have a puppy for you. If you are #30 on the list I plan for 3 litters and give you that time frame in our initial email. If you are #40 I plan for 4 litters and give you that time frame in our initial email etc. etc. etc.
I very much understand people want to know when they will get a puppy but due to the many factors involved it just is impossible to know or even guess at this. I do promise that I will offer puppies as they come in order of deposit.
My initial email to you will always have my most accurate “guess” as to when I will have a puppy for you. Please use this information as a guide as to when you will be offered a puppy. I will not answer the question “What number am I on the list”.
I will only tell you the time frame in which I think I will be offering you a puppy based on the number of successful pregnancies or successful breeding’s.
